Bonk should never have been rendered in 3D

I don’t mean to be such a dick tonight, but what is up with these images of the upcoming Bonk: Brink of Extinction? Now, I’ll grant you, these aren’t screenshots of the final product but it does not look good.

I love Bonk. When I was a kid and the TurboGrafx-16 came out, it was the game I wanted for it so badly I could taste the on-bone meat power-up. For years, I pined for the game knowing that I would never have the console that it ran on (I still don’t, much to my chagrin) and was ecstatic when the games started coming out for the Wii’s Virtual Console service.

This is awful, though. I’m not generally the type to bitch too severely about rendered HD upgrades of games but, then again, they don’t usually look this hideous either. Bonk looks worse than the internet’s dancing baby phenomenon of 1996. I hope it plays better than its appearance would suggest. What happened here?
