It deserves it
With the tough-as-nails approach, cryptic story, and ethereal aesthetic, Souls games are a tough sell. But the quality of each game (and the talent of director Hidetaka Miyazaki) shines through, and Bloodborne is the latest game to reach the one million sold mark.
Sony has announced that through Blu-ray and digital sales, Bloodborne has sold over one million units, a number that Sony boss Shuhei Yoshida is particularly proud of. It’s interesting to note that although Sony did do a great job of advertising, it didn’t have an obnoxious hype-filled campaign leading up to launch — as I said, the buzz spoke for itself once the game was actually out.
For reference, Bandai Namco announced that Dark Souls II sold 2.5 million across all platforms, so its last two projects can be considered successes. Where does From Software go from here? The studio could do Bloodborne 2. It could remake Dark Souls. It could also already be working on Dark Souls 3 or another completely new project. Whatever it is, I hope the series continues.
