From Software’s upcoming PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, has some relation to the Souls series of games, but the death system may not end up working exactly the same.

In an E3 showing of the game, director Hidetaka Miyazaki said that they still have not finalized how player death will be handled in Bloodborne, and that they’re still considering options. He has decided that they’re not going to make the death penalty too severe, which is nice to hear after seeing just how difficult the game will be

Miyazaki does hope to carry over the darkness and sense of exploration of the Souls series of games to Bloodborne.

He also said that the game will feature a large map that might be closer to Dark Souls than anything else in the series. It’s more of a continuous map, with less stage separation.

While details are still light, we do know that you’ll be able to customize your character like you can in the Souls games. Miyazaki says to expect lots of weapon and armor options to pick from.
