Blizzard looking to update Warcraft 1 & 2 for modern PCs

‘…we’d love to replay those games for sure’

At BlizzCon 2013, World of Warcraft production director J. Allen Brack responded to a fan request for the company to make Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness compatible with modern PCs. “So, we actually have a guy on our team — actually several guys on our team — who are actually working on a side project to do something like that in some form or fashion,” he said, adding that the team would “love to replay those games for sure.”

It’s unclear to what extent the titles will be changed outside of what’s needed to ensure compatibility but even if this is the most basic of upgrades, I’m in. I can hardly put into words how much I enjoy Tides of Darkness and it’s been years since I’ve played the game. Let’s hope that “side project” isn’t code for “this may not actually see the light of day.”
