While Sony Online Entertainment was content with producing Everquest titles for years, Blizzard doesn’t intend on following in their footsteps.
Speaking with Wired, Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime confirms that their next massively-mulitplayer-online adventure will not be set in Warcraft universe.
“We’re not trying to replace World of Warcraft with this new MMO,” he says. “We’re trying to create a differen massively multiplayer experience, and hopefully World of Warcraft will still be going strong when that one is released.”
I think it’s pretty safe to say that most people expected Blizzard to venture off in a new direction with their next MMO, but it’s nice to have it confirmed. What it will be is a mystery for now, however we’re holding out hope for Lost Vikings World of Blackthorne Planet Online. As far as WOW still going strong, we’re pretty sure this guy will have that covered.
