BioWare panel ludicrously touts ancient RPG mechanics

Ok, so I’m an RPG designer, right? I have this amazing idea for my next RPG video game. In it, I will feature things like “equipment”, “non-recycled level design”, and “actual role playing decisions”.

This was an actual BioWare panel at PAX, recorded by GameSpot. If you don’t believe me, watch the above video and see BioWare’s “creative” minds brainstorm over things that have been included in nearly every RPG in the past twenty years. They even spend close to three minutes talking about customizing outfits with genre bending ideas such as “color”. BioWare’s Mike Laidlaw stated that while this isn’t a “Dragon Age III panel”, all feedback is being considered. For instance, the suggestion to make it an actual RPG this time around.

I have no idea how a company can go from making one of the most expansive RPGs of all time (Baldur’s Gate) to a shell of their former self, into an almost Molyneuxian parody state. But not all hope is lost, fans — BioWare has placated your hopes and dreams of a better Dragon Age III with cosplay. Cosplay makes everything better, folks.
