BioWare deploys patch to make Anthem loot more impactful, reduces tethering timer

It’s not exactly cool to like Anthem right now, but BioWare is doing a lot of things to right the ship. Not only have they been in the trenches daily in reddit, reading and responding to comments in a meaningful fashion (Bungie could learn from this), but they’ve also been pushing out hotfixes rather quickly.

The latest series of updates arrive in the form of patch 1.04 and a loot hotfix. The former smooths over a few bugs and mostly deals with a major annoyance in Anthem: tethering. In short, players who were too far away from their team during active missions were forced to teleport to their squad, which led to a brief loading screen. In most cases simply keeping up with your party will cancel the tethering mechanic, but there are instances where you’d load in and immediately see the timer. Now it’s more relaxed.

We talked about the loot changes in the past, but they deal with masterworks (high tier loot) and their efficacy. Now players should find more relevant bonuses (inscriptions) on their guns going forward. You can find a full breakdown of the loot changes below.

There’s work to be done, especially on the technical side, but most of the updates so far have been great.

  • Items will no longer have inscriptions on them that are not appropriate for that specific item. NOTE: This only applies to items obtained after the patch. Items obtained prior to the hotfix will still have the same inscriptions they had before.
  • Masterwork crafting costs have been reduced from 25 -> 15 Masterwork Embers. The amount of plants, metal and parts required for crafting a Masterwork item have also been reduced.
