One thing is certain — 2K Marin’s BioShock 2 isn’t a rehash of the original BioShock. If you’re a Rapture purist, however, it’s safe to turn that frown upside down — tone, style, and yes, even music is very much in the spirit of the source material.

When asked specifically about the soundtrack or mood of the music being retained, the response from 2K Marin was quite positive in that regard.

“The same composer [Garry Schyman] is doing the score, and we’re still figuring out our license and music situation, but it’s going to be all period [1940s] music,” developer Hogarth de la Plante said.

“It’s a super important part of the to the BioShock ‘soundscape’,” developer Zak McClendon quickly added.

Even though BioShock 2 takes place roughly eight years after the original, there’s a reason the music will stay the same — Rapture is in a bubble … literally.

“Rapture is a time capsule so even though there’s been a few more years, you’re still hearing the old pretty haunting stuff,” developer J.P. LeBreton said. “We’re just looking for a wider variety of it.”

So, it’s much more of the same? Sign me up.
