Ancient is responsible for one of my favorite Genesis games of all time, Beyond Oasis. Essentially Sega’s answer to The Legend of Zelda, it was a gorgeous little game with some interesting gimmicks and traditional top-down adventuring. It was a fine little game, which is why it’s so cool to see that Ancient is still kicking away, developing a new title for Xbox Live’s Indie Games channel.
It’s called Mammote Knight and it looks absolutely brilliant. It keeps things old school with a top-down perspective but pumps the action to absurd levels, with up to four players fighting off endless waves of monsters in a bid to protect the princess. Think Tower Defense meets Gauntlet meets Dynasty Warriors meets HUGE DRAGONS.
Check out the trailer, which is absolutely mental. I really hope this game goes worldwide, and breaks out of the rather small-scale Indie Games channel. It looks too good to go ignored.
