Ancient Debris is one of the hardest resources to find in Minecraft, which sucks, as you need a lot of them to build Netherite weapons and armor.
It can only be found in the Nether, and even then, as a new player trying to find some, you might come across one in a blue moon. They are incredibly rare, and it can take a long time to gather what you need.
So pray tell, what is the best Y coordinate to mine around in the Nether when trying to find one, so you aren’t landscaping an entire Nether Fortress or area in hopes of finding these elusive blocks?
Best Y coordinate for finding Ancient Debris in Minecraft

To find Ancient Debris in Minecraft, you’ll want to remove a lot of blocks quickly. The best way is to either use TNT or bed explosions to destroy a large part of the area. These explosions do not destroy Ancient Debris, so it’s the best way to clear out a bunch without having to strip mine and increase your chances at finding Ancient Debris in the open.
You ideally want to do this at around Y coordinate 11 to 15, even if the blocks can appear as far as 24, 11 to 15 or even 16 seems to be the best place to start your explosions, as the explosion will likely go beyond this field and yield the best chance at finding Ancient Debris clusters.
Once you find Ancient Debris, use a Diamond Pickaxe to break and collect it. You’ll need to get a lot of them, like we said before. There’s also a very small chance of finding Ancient Debris in Bastian Remnant chests if you are very lucky!
How to Use Ancient Debris in Minecraft
To use Ancient Debris, you need to smelt it in furnaces to give you Netherite Scrap. You can then craft Netherite Scrap into Netherite Ingots by placing four Netherite Scrap pieces in the three slots at the top of a crafting table and one in the left middle, and four Gold Ingots placed in the centre and right middle, and the left bottom and middle bottom areas.
To then make Netherite Gear ot Weapons, you need to place a Netherite Ingot in a Smithing Table with any Diamond tool, weapon, or armor piece to turn it into Netherite instead, completing the process.
