The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is now available on PC and consoles, and the performance on the opening day has been far from smooth. Given the general nature of the game, you’ll want to avoid any lag or stutter at all costs.
This guide will help you get the best possible performance on your rig to avoid any kind of lag while you explore the cursed forest.
Best The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu graphics settings
Here’s my current setup on which I have been playing the game.
- 32 GB of DDR4 RAM
- AMD Radeon 9060 XT 16 GB
- AMD Ryzen 7 5700X
While my system specifications are comfortably above the recommended requirements on Steam, I encountered lag (even in the Prologue, which is a single-player version).

I have used parameters that will help you out if your system is closer to the minimum requirements.
- Window Mode: Full screen if you use a single screen; Borderless otherwise.
- Resolution: Go with the native resolution as supported by your monitor.
- Frame Rate Limit: 90 or 60. Try 90 to see if you’re encountering any lags. If you do, reduce it to 60. Don’t go in with Unlimited until we have a few post-launch patches.
- VSync: Disabled. However, turn this on if you encounter lag. You’ll give up a few frames, but the performance will be smoother.
- View Distance: High/Medium
- Lighting Quality: Low/Medium
- Anti-Aliasing Quality: Medium
- Texture Quality: Low/Medium
- Visual Effects Quality: Low/Medium
- Post-processing Quality: Low/Medium
- Upscaling: FSR 4 if you have an AMD card; TSR if you have an NVIDIA card.
- Quality Mode: Performance
While I don’t enable Upscaling by default, you’ll need it for smoother performance. Based on the Steam reviews, players are indeed suffering from general performance issues. Hence, we might have to wait for the moment to solve the graphical issues present in the current build of the game.
