Ruins Greatsword
Despite having some stat scaling go into Intelligence, the Ruins Greatsword is an incredible Colossal Sword that deals Standard and Pierce damage. On top of that, it has an ability akin to the Blasphemous Blade’s signature ability. You cast a wave of purple energy that damages everything in its path; you just don’t get the lifesteal benefits.
If you like big damage with a fun ability on the side, the Ruins Greatsword is where it’s at.
Ordovis’s Greatsword
This is another weapon that dips into secondary stats. Still, Ordovis’s Greatsword excels greatly in Strength builds that dip into other stats like Dexterity and Faith. It’s also a Pierce weapon so it’s a lighter version of the Ruins Greatsword.
On top of that, it has Ordovis’s Vortex ability that is visually appealing, has good AoE, and deals significant poise damage.
Uchigatana (Heavy)
Since you can apply Ashes of War onto weapons that don’t use Somber Smithing Stones, you can end up with a weapon like the Uchigatana. It may be the standard starting weapon for the Samurai class, but with the Heavy Affinity granted to it, this becomes a Strength player’s dream.
Typically, Strength builds use heavier weapons. You trade speed for slower, heavy-hitting attacks. This breaks that vulnerability of being slow, especially when facing faster enemies. Even with the Ash of War equipped, you can deal Blood Loss damage, which, even after nerfs, is very strong.
Serpent Hunter
While you can’t cast the wind beams for this weapon outside of the Rykard battle, the Serpent Hunter is still a beast of a weapon. It greatly excels with Strength with little to Dexterity. You can ignore the secondary scaling and go with its primary to deal great damage.
What the Serpent Hunter also excels in is its range. Being a free weapon before fighting one of the Remembrance bosses is a hell of a good trade.
Brick Hammer
For a raw-damage weapon, the Brick Hammer does just as it’s advertised. However, what makes this stand out is that you can be flexible with infusing it with Ashes of War.
Merging it with a Heavy, Cold, Poison, or Blood Affinity will still preserve its Strength stat. On top of maintaining Strength as the main stat, the Brick Hammer can inherit a status effect to inflict further damage onto enemies constantly attacked by it.
Rotten Battle Hammer
Similar to the normal Battle Hammer, the Rotten version inherently has Scarlet Rot. This does mean you can use an Ash of War and go full Strength on this. However, the secret is to apply Blood or Poison onto this weapon so you now have a hard-hitting weapon that can deal two status effects.
Sure, by applying an elemental Ash of War onto the Rotten Battle Hammer, you are losing some strength, but the status effect buildup is extremely powerful.
Giant-Crusher
This massive hammer will require a lot of Strength specced into it, but it will pay off. The Giant-Crusher can deal some of the highest damage per hit in this game. On top of it, this thing can stun smaller enemies and even break their posture.
The thing with posture breaking is that you can get a lot of free damage with a follow-up finisher. It’s great against the more annoying bosses who have attacks that are just too hard to dodge. Just brute force them into submission by bonking them over the head.
Great Stars
The Great Stars is another weapon that, once equipped with the Heavy Ash of War, can turn your build into a boss-killing weapon. With high physical damage and Blood Loss accumulation, you’re going to be taking huge chunks of health off of even the strongest bosses in this game.
Even if you don’t go for the heavy attunement for Ashes of War, Poison or additional Blood Loss will still make this weapon shine in Strength builds.Â
Star Fist
Instead of using your bare fists to pummel all who await you in The Lands Between, you may want to put the Star Fist on. These spiked ball fist weapons make you quite nimble and can inflict Blood Loss. You’re sacrificing range for high damage output, but these things also provide some decent defense, all things considered.
It’s best to two-hand this weapon as it then doubles up. You’ll get a Star Fist on each hand so you can punch your way through anything that comes at you. It’s a lot of fun and very effective.
Gargoyle’s Great Axe
The Gargoyle’s Great Axe is an interesting one. You can use it for pure damage purposes, or you can infuse an Ash of War to make it inflict Cold, Poison, or Blood Loss. The latter three choices are way better so now you’re double-dipping damage types.
Heavy weapons can already break the postures of enemies quicker than lighter ones, so why not deal an extra status effect to kill them faster?
