Best Spells in Monster Train 2

Weave the magic

There are plenty of spell cards available in Monster Train 2 across all five clans, and some of them can be gamechangers when used at the proper moments.

Ideally, you’ll be using spells that coordinate properly with the clans of your choice. In simpler words, the best spell of the Lazarus League clan will matter very little when used with Banished units. However, this guide will help you to separate the best spells (available per clan) from those better avoided.

Best spell effects in Monster Train 2

Before we deep dive, it’s important to understand that all spells can become better if you upgrade them with Gold. However, here are my favorites. I tried to include potential units from every clan, so you can try different options on your runs.

EagleheartBanishedCosts 2 Amber, but it will advance your unit and trigger its Shift ability. Also adds Valor 5 to the unit, and they will attack immediately (even if it’s not their turn). The only downside is the Consume element, so make sure to duplicate the copy.
CleaveBanishedA 2-Amber cost spell that doesn’t look effective at first, but can become a deadly option once you power up Fel. Your Banished champion will mostly have Multistrike, and using this card will allow you to dish out a huge amount of damage at the beginning of a turn.
Golden TouchPyreborneA simple 2-cost spell that does 5 damage. However, if the damage slays an enemy, you’ll gain one Dragon Egg. This spell is effective at quickly stacking up the number of Dragon Eggs on your run. Try to reduce its costs and duplicate the copy to make it a staple of your drafted deck.
Silver StrikeLuna CovenOne of the best damage-dealing spells in the entire game. It offers 25 damage to the front enemy unit and costs only one Amber. If Full Moon is activated, it will deal the same damage twice. You can always upgrade the damage to make it more powerful.
Tidal TurningLuna CovenWhile Tidal Turning costs a lot (3 Amber), its healing effects are extremely powerful. It will restore 20 Health for all friendly units, and any extra healing converts into armor. Luna Coven units typically have weaker defense, so this is a must-have. Try to reduce its cost with an upgrade, and this spell will become very handy in dire situations.
Coven’s SpikeLuna CovenLuna Coven units rely heavily on Conduit, which makes the spells more powerful. Coven’s Spike uses as many Ambers as you have, and applies 3x Conduit. If you already have your units set up and plenty of 0-cost spells, this is the perfect card to play.
InhaleUnderlegionThe Underlegion clan is all about the Funguy, and Inhale is the best spell to activate that. The spell does 10 damage, but it will spawn 2 Funguys if you manage to kill an enemy with it. The cost is also on the lower side at 1 Amber.
Scrap for PartsLazarus LeagueMost of the Lazarus League units either have Reanimate or Endless. In short, you can sacrifice one of them to play this spell, which will draw a unit at random and increase its Damage by 40. Its cost will be reduced to 0, which makes this spell pretty incredible. You can sacrifice a feeder unit to spawn a more powerful one.
Explosive ReactionLazarus LeagueIf you want to apply a lot of Unstable in quick time, this is the spell to play. Applies 25 Unstable on an enemy unit, and also chips away 5 health. Try to reduce its cost (2 Amber), and the spell becomes more powerful.
Weaponized ProstheticLazarus LeagueIf you no longer wish to keep an equipment piece on a unit, you can play this spell to give it a permanent 30 Damage upgrade.

I have deliberately left out the staple spells that are part of every clan. Cards like Mix and Witchweave are the backbone of any deck, and you’ll be playing them frequently. All the staple spells are always useful for their respective clans.

While using the correct spell is important, you’ll also have to upgrade your units if you’re trying to defeat all bosses and unlock the Endless mode.
