Playstyles

Diona is a support character with the ability to heal and shield teammates. She is also a good Cryo battery, since her Skill can generate a flurry of Cryo particles.

In team rotations, use Diona’s hold Skill and Burst, then swap to your teammates. If she’s equipped with Sacrificial Bow, you can cast her hold Skill twice in quick succession to generate twice as many particles.

In co-op, you may want to stick with spamming tap Skill instead of hold. It’s a slightly weaker shield with a shorter duration, but since Diona will be on-field more often, you can afford to continuously refresh the shield with more tap Skills. This eliminates the 3 seconds of downtime while her hold Skill is on cooldown. Note that Diona needs Constellation 2 in order to shield teammates in co-op.

Weapons

Favonius Warbow
Favonius Warbow allows Diona to be a better all-purpose battery. The clear particles provide energy for all teammates equally, regardless of element. Since Diona’s hold Skill has five individual hits, each with their own chance to CRIT, she gets five chances to proc this weapon passive. You can obtain one Favonius Warbow for free after completing the Mondstadt Archon quests.

Sacrificial Bow
Sacrificial Bow makes Diona a better Cryo battery. She generates an average of four Cryo particles with each hold Skill, so casting it twice results in around eight. You can easily swap to another character to catch the second wave of particles too. This is a great strategy to generate lots of Energy at once for Cryo characters like Ayaka or Eula.

Recurve Bow
If you have neither of the above, you can slap a 3-star Recurve Bow on Diona. Its passive isn’t particularly useful, but it does give Diona more HP, improving her healing and shielding capabilities. Consider an Energy Recharge sands if you go this route. This weapon can be found in chests around Mondstadt.

Artifacts

4pc Noblesse Oblige (4NO)
Though Diona herself makes little use of the 2pc effect, the 4pc effect allows her to buff her entire team’s ATK whenever she Bursts. If you do not have Constellation 1 or an Energy Recharge weapon, it can be difficult to reliably trigger this buff every rotation.

2pc combos
If you don’t need the ATK buff from 4NO, then you can combine 2pc sets that provide HP, Energy Recharge, or Healing Bonus.

CRIT Rate (if Favonius)

If your Diona is Constellation 1 with Recurve Bow, Diona should shoot for around 180% Energy Recharge. Favonius Warbow and Sacrificial Bow make it so that you rarely have to build much additional Energy Recharge on top of what your weapon gives you. Still, extra Energy Recharge is always welcome, especially when the only other stat Diona cares about is HP.

Use a CRIT Rate circlet if equipping Favonius Warbow to help proc its passive effect. You don’t need too much; remember that Diona has five chances to proc it with each hold Skill. About 45% CRIT Rate is fine, or around 30% with Cryo Resonance.

The rest of Diona’s stats can focus on HP. HP is preferred over Healing Bonus, since both her shields and healing scale with her max HP.

Teams

Diona is great for Cryo teams, but she can really be slotted in anytime you need a defensive support. Feel free to add her to any team if all you need is a shield or some healing.

Freeze/Mono Cryo

These teams get the most mileage out of Diona as a Cryo battery. Diona provides defensive utility as well as Energy for your main Cryo DPS. Here are some classic teams to try out:

  • Diona – Ganyu/Ayaka – Venti/Kazuha – Hydro
  • Diona – Ganyu/Ayaka – Venti/Kazuha – Shenhe

Dendro/Vapemelt

At Constellation 6, Diona’s Burst buffs the Elemental Mastery of teammates in its AoE. This can be useful for some teams that aren’t Cryo-focused, but appreciate the Elemental Mastery. For Hyperbloom and Burgeon teams, Diona can sometimes generate more Blooms by triggering Freeze, which helps preserve Hydro auras on enemies. In reverse Vaporize teams with a Pyro DPS, Diona’s Cryo application can even enable the occasional Melt. If you want to maximize Diona’s Elemental Mastery buff, consider equipping her with 4pc Instructor. It’ll result in less survivability due to its 4-star artifact stats, but it can grant a sizable team buff on top of her C6 effect. Some team examples include:

  • Diona – Tighnari/Alhaitham – Fischl – Nahida
  • Diona – Raiden(EM) – Dendro – Hydro
  • Diona – Thoma – Dendro – Hydro
  • Diona – Hu Tao/Yoimiya – XingqiuYelan

Physical

As a Cryo unit, Diona can enable Superconduct when paired with Electro. She can also provide Energy for Physical Cryo DPS units like Eula and Freminet. These teams look a bit like:

  • Diona – Eula – Fischl/Raiden – Rosaria
  • Diona – Freminet – Xingqiu/Yelan – Fischl
