The other day we told you that mega-retailer Walmart is testing out selling used games in five of their stores. Not to be left behind, Best Buy and Toys R Us are also playing around with the idea. Again.
Information has been released that shows that both retailers are testing out used game concepts in a few of their stores now. Between these two and Walmart, game companies have to be throwing their hands up in the air. They don’t want us all going to these stores looking for new games and buying used ones instead.
Colin Sebastian at Lazard Capital Markets doesn’t sound too worried about either store catching up with GameStop. “Given the lack of success of other pre-owned game initiatives, we don’t view these new initiatives as posing a clear threat to GameStop,” Sebastian stated.
I’m no analyst, but I don’t think that any of the three retailers will have much success in the used games arena. It would cost too much for them to get to a place where they could compete with GameStop.
