Battlefield TV show is a real thing, featuring the series’ trademark ‘robust storytelling’

Because that’s what I play Battlefield for!

You’ve been kicking, screaming, and begging for it, so here it is: Hollywood Reporter has found that Paramount Television and Anonymous Content are optioning the rights for a television show based on EA DICE’s Battlefield series. You know, the one with middling-to-dreadful single-player campaigns that everyone skips in favor of the much better multiplayer.

There’s no network yet and this is still the twinkle in some producer’s eye at the moment, but this strikes me as an incredibly odd choice. Paramount TV president Amy Powell describes Battlefield as having “an incredibly dynamic narrative” as well as “a loyal fan base,” so at least one of those things is true. Michael Sugar of Anonymous Content wants to “develop the Battlefield TV series with the same commitment to robust storytelling that has made the game such a runaway success for nearly 15 years.”

I suppose it is easier to accomplish a high-jump goal when the bar is at your shins. And hey, maybe I’m just a huge dick and it’ll be cool! I remember digging Band of Brothers, and this could be similar. I’ll most likely stick to the games though (and here’s a full match of Battlefield 1 that I played over the weekend!).
