Battlefield 3 pre-orders top 1.5 million

Electronic Arts has a lot to crow about today, revealing that pre-orders for the hungrily awaited Battlefield 3have topped 1.5 million. For those who aren’t good at math, rest assured that it’s a really big number!

Back when the pre-order figures sat at 1.25 million, it was already dwarfing the numbers for Battlefield: Bad Company 2. With another 250,000 downpayments since then, it looks like the “military” shooter genre indeed has the most serious competitor we’ve had in years.

Pre-orders of the game net players a free “Back to Karkand” map pack, which isn’t too shabby an incentive.

We’re almost close enough to Battlefield 3‘s launch that we can taste it now. I’m really eager to get ahold of it, if only to see how the gameplay matches up against those stunning graphics.
