Last night I was asked what my ‘game of TGS’ was. I said that I wanted to say The Last Remnant, but I felt that I didn’t get to play enough of it to call it. What I did play was incredibly solid, and showed a lot of promise for the full game, set to launch in November.
I had a chance to toy with the battle system a bit, but by the looks of the new screenshots released today, it looks like Square Enix was holding out on us. In the gallery, you’ll see images of the The Last Remnant‘s Combat Arts, Mystic Arts, and Item Arts, all three skills that are to be used in battle. You’ll also see examples of the many types of weapons in the game. Apparently wield style affects battle in many ways.
Finally, the game is called The Last Remnant because “remnants” play a big role. The large gun you see in the shot above is a remnant called the Gae Bolg. No, not Gay Blog. This is an energy gun with “immeasurable” destructive power. Within the shots below you’ll also see the Cyclops, a remnant sealed in Rush’s talisman. It has the power to destroy everything in its path.
Square Enix is still sitting on much of the storyline. Let’s hope it’s as good as the battle system appears to be.
