That distributor of exclusive game announcements, Game Informer, has revealed its May issue cover and unveiled Batman: Arkham Origins in the process. Warner Brothers Montreal is on the project, taking over from Rocksteady.

Set years before the events of previously released games, a younger Batman will face off against supervillains for the first time. Already revealed is Deathstroke, and one has to assume some old favorites will be waiting in the wings as well. The main plot involves eight assassins gathering on Christmas Eve to dispose of the Bat.

In addition, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate has been announced for 3DS and PS Vita. The handheld outing will take the form of a 2.5D Metroidvania style action game.

Arkham Origins is slated for an October 25 release date, for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC.
