Basic Wii U can’t install Nintendo Land to 8GB hard drive

System install takes up 60% of Basic 8GB hard drive

If you are planning to install games to the Basic Wii U console, you should be ready to purchase an external hard drive. After system software and a user profile is installed, there will only be 3GB remaining on the Basic 8GB Wii U. That’s enough to install New Super Mario Bros. U (2GB) but not enough for Nintendo Land (3.2GB) and many other launch titles.

Perhaps you already expected this. In that case, you may want to look at the details on USB data storage. Unless you have a 3TB+ hard drive (lucky you), it will most likely work with the system. Read on here for full details on data storage, parental controls, and backwards compatibility.

Or, you can play games via disc, like a 2005 pleb. Is this where I leave a snarky comment about PC gaming?
