Assassin’s Creed Syndicate finally uses ‘London Calling’ in a trailer

Took long enough

“London Calling” is a very good song by The Clash, a very good punk band. Through its staccato’d guitars and less-than-frantic pace, it tells of social and political concern in England’s capital. There’s a feel-good veneer covering the lyrics that are anything but.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, a video game that is imminently releasing, takes place in Victorian London. By some great exercise of restraint, Ubisoft hasn’t yet put out a trailer with “London Calling” as its backdrop. That is, until right now.

Really, it’s a fitting song for the game. Assassin’s Creed titles typically try to tie in era-appropriate social and political elements — even if it’s usually ineffective. Still, that’s probably not what any marketer had on his mind with this one. They probably just thought “London Calling?! Oh, I know just the perfect thing! This will really rock the casbah!”
