Russ over at MTV Multiplayer brings us a report on Batman: Arkham Asylum that shouldn’t infuriate anyone, but probably will anyway. Such is the way of the Internet and gaming.
Similar to how last year’s Prince of Persia eliminated the need for a game over screen by giving the Prince a freakishly helpful companion in Elika, so too will the Caped Crusader be able to avoid seeing the dreadful “you suck, here’s bloody words on top of darkness” screen, at least in some scenarios.
Before Batman falls to his doom from a botched jump, “the game will actually slow down and prompt you to hit the grapple button (in the case of the 360 version, the right bumper),” says Russ. “Do it fast enough and Bats will shoot out his grappling hook, bringing you back to the ledge you were just on.”
However, you can still get your ass handed to you by Arkham’s inmates, which will result in a game over screen. So, to recap, if you screw up in some situations, the game will give you a second chance, thereby skipping the need to reload a level — but not always.
Like I said, it shouldn’t be a big deal. Please don’t make a big deal out of this. Why are you yelling at me? Put that stapler down!
