Getting into No Man’s Sky a day or so before everyone (well, almost everyone, outside of that one guy who got an early copy off eBay) for my review session was a treat. I love the idea of jumping into a brand new world that’s completely untouched, even by the internet, and for a brief period I got to experience that sensation of isolation.

Then the truck hit — people started realizing that a lot of the things we saw previously either were rare, or not in the game at all. A lot of the allure was lost, not necessarily for me personally, but as a collective whole. The truth bomb hit after that, showing that the game had lost 90% of its audience on Steam in a matter of weeks. Also, it sold 22,000 copies in Japan.

I always figured the ending would be kind of pointless and the journey was what No Man’s Sky was about, so I still casually enjoy locating new discoveries, ignoring the critical path as much as possible. I also wanted to compile data of my own to see if the dropoff was that severe across the board. So let us know!
