Relive the magic of arcades without the sticky floors and greasy knobs

’80s arcade management sim Arcadecraft is now available on Xbox Live Indie Games (240 Microsoft points; $3.00), where indie games go to die unless they are zombie-based or Minecraft rip-offs. Bringing to mind that title in name only, Arcadecraft harkens back to the Bullfrog sims of the ’90s (Theme Hospital, Theme Park) and sports a pleasant colorful look.

Like any good sim, the player is constantly pressured to meet the demands of a divisive public. Picking the right genre of game, style of cabinet, game difficulty, and game price all factor into running a successful establishment. There is also the growing threat of jammed coin slots, coin boxes that need cleaning, and hardware malfunctions. Having followed Austin’s Arcade UFO owner on Twitter, all of this sounds about right.

I haven’t had a chance to check out Arcadecraft yet, but I plan to, especially since Jordan Devore had good things to say about the trial. If you’ve played Aracadecraft, share your thoughts with us.
