Angry Birds Rio for Android exclusive to Amazon

Recommended Videos

Angry Birds is quite possibly the most popular game in the world right now. It’s certainly managed to tap into the culture as we see references appearing all over broadcast television. Plus, if it’s a videogame and my mother knows what it is, you’ve clearly managed to do something big. Now Amazon is seeking to capitalize on that fame by gaining the exclusive distribution rights for the next installment, Angry Birds Rio.

The online retailer announced that it had secured the deal today and that the Android version of Angry Birds Rio will only be available through the Amazon App store, where it will serve as a launch title for the new service.

Hot damn. I guess there’s simply no better game to do this with. If you want to launch a service which competes with the one that comes pre-installed on platform devices, you had best get the most entrenched product for said platform as a part of your service. Making the Amazon App Store the only place to get a new Angry Birds will no doubt drive many millions of people to use the service for the first time.

Now they’ll just have to get them to come back. Somehow, I’m not worried for Amazon’s success.
