Amazon.com is a place people go to buy videogames sometimes. As such it is also a place where one can see what is selling well. What sold well on Amazon in 2009 was the Wii and anything that has to do with the Wii. In fact, if it wasn’t for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 coming in at number nine with only one month under its belt and the PS3 controller coming in at number 11, Nintendo would have ruled the roost with the top ten selling products on Amazon.
Now it should be noted that Amazon doesn’t always represent the bigger picture in the gaming sales world. As was noted by Jesse Divnich, Director of Analyst services for EEDAR, Amazon has a surprisingly small market share when it comes to games. Still, how old is Mario Kart Wii now, and it’s still a top ten selling game at its original price point? And can we give a little respect to New Super Mario Bros. Wii for claiming the number five spot in just one month. You have to go down to number 17 to find another console in the form of the PS3 and all the way up to 86 to find an Xbox. I am a little surprised to see the DSi at number 27, but then again everyone in the world owning a DS probably slows sales down a bit.
