Am I going to be in 1001 Spikes?

[Update: Nicalis also confirmed that the game is definitely coming to Europe.]

It’s no secret that 1001 Spikes was one of my favorite games of 2014. It’s also one of my most anticipated games of 2015. There’s been an update in the works for 1001 Spikes since before the game was even put out on the market, which will hopefully come out this year. It’s planned to include new levels, modes, and characters — enough new content to be considered a mini-sequel.

Today, I discovered that I am one of those characters. That is, if this doesn’t turn out to be yet another insidious April Fools’ Day prank. With announcements like this from Nicalis, it can be hard to tell sometimes, but I have reason to be hopeful.

Earlier today, Nicalis announced via Twitter that Shane Bettenhausen of PlayStation, Johnny Turbo of TurboGrafx-16 fanatics fame, and myself would be appearing in the 2015 update of 1001 Spikes, presumably as playable characters. Notch was also invited to join in. While I had jokingly jabbed Tyrone Rodriguez of Nicalis in the past about how I’d make a great addition to the game’s roster, this was the first that I heard that it was actually happening.

I asked Tyrone for clarification on the details of the situation, and he responded by saying “You can post a gif of what you think you’ll look like in the game. But Shane and Johnny Turbo are definitely in…” Per that instruction, I made this gif, using the “only three colors per character” rule that the rest of the cast of 1001 Spikes follows. As you can see, my special ability get fat and bald, which is shocking at first, but nothing to stop smiling about in the long run. I’m not sure that’s what the kids are into these days, but it’s all I got.
