All Silent Hill UFO endings, ranked

Always there, always hilarious

Non-fans of Silent Hill might find it surprising that aliens and UFOs are just as prevalent in the region as plain ol’earthly psychological dread. Fans, however, know they are always waiting to steal the show right at the end, so let’s rank the best UFO endings in the series.

Silent Hill: Homecoming

The only thing blander and dumber than Silent Hill: Homecoming‘s UFO ending is that you can accidentally stumble into it, as this is the only ending of this kind that players can get in the first playthrough. The only funny thing here is how it might incidentally lead some players to believe aliens are the canon explanation to all of the town’s misfortunes, then provides no further explanation.

Silent Hill: Origins

It really sucks when your ending features a cute hand-drawn art style, but then goes on to feature barely any animation. This one is funny only because of a fan-favorite cameo and a pretty good joke, considering it’s made by a creature from another planet. Sadly, it’s not scary at all. At this point, it really feels like they were doing these out of obligation.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories

Shattered Memories’ UFO ending features very cheap animation that doesn’t allow for the creation of the uneasy, funny-but-spooky atmosphere seen in the best endings of this kind in the series. Still, it features two truly hilarious twists that also function as great callbacks to the series’ past.

Silent Hill 3

Though the UFO ending from Silent Hill 3 doesn’t feature much in the way of animation, a pretty disappointing twist from arguably the most visually impressive game on the PS2, it’s still pretty funny, and features an alternate ending that’s sure to please fans of Harry from the original game.

Silent Hill f

Silent Hill f is a love letter to most things Silent Hill, and thus it naturally doesn’t leave the UFO ending tradition. The UFO ending here tells a whole story, and, even though it lacks the eerie and janky look and feel of the original UFO endings, it’s nice to see real effort being put into these fan-favorite endings once again.

Silent Hill 2 Remake

The UFO ending from the Silent Hill 2 remake is a nice touch, as instead of just remaking the UFO ending present in that game, it plays as its sequel of sorts. It shows the new James Sunderland meeting not Harry from the first game, but the old James Sunderland model, who is actually working with the aliens to, perhaps, bring back some semblance of normalcy to Silent Hill.

Silent Hill 2

Though Silent Hill 2’s most famous joke ending isn’t the one with the aliens, it still does feature a funny UFO ending. This one features a fun nod to Space Invaders, the outdated creepiness of silent movies of the B&W era, as well as one of the eeriest betrayals in gaming. Trust no one, even the hero.

Silent Hill

The original UFO ending gets extra points for getting the whole UFO ending thing rolling, naturally, but it stood on its own then and remains powerful to this day. It nails being funny and eerily terrifying at the same time, and does so with a tone completely dissimilar to that of the game. This truly is a cherry on top of Silent Hill’s cake, and a testament to the ability of one of the most talented and underrated development teams in history.
