Night Swarm might be a singleplayer-only experience, but you don’t have to play alone. Instead, there are various companions to use in your fight against the unlimited hordes of enemies.

You can raise and use a single companion on every run. Once chosen, those companions will be present in every stage (unless stated otherwise). While a few companions are available by default, you can enjoy more options as you clear the initial stages.

How to unlock new companions in Night Swarm

Four of the 10 companions in Night Swarm are unlocked by default. The remaining six can be recruited using Reputation Letters. You get this rare resource from completing runs and hitting specific milestones.

Colored green, the Reputation Letter has only two roles: unlocking new companions and upgrading them. You can apply upgrades to a companion’s active and passive abilities to further enhance their fighting potential. Naturally, you will want to use the resource efficiently and prioritize upgrading companions that suit your playstyle.

You can unlock and upgrade your companions by speaking with Lord. Just make sure to have an adequate amount of Reputation Letters for the unlock and upgrade process.
