Rebellion has revealed that Asura, the internal game engine that powered 2010’s Aliens vs. Predator, is now “fully playable” on Sony’s Next Generation Portable. The revelation came by way of a third-person multiplayer shooter demonstration.

“The technology, design and art teams have worked incredibly well with Sony’s newest device,” said CEO Jason Kingsley. “We have managed to make our engine fully functional, and looking great on the hardware in double quick time. We’ll be attending DICE and GDC to show what we have created and look for business partners.”

Thanks to its status as a self-contained package without the need for middleware, Asura was able to get onto the NGP quickly, giving other developers a solid portable engine to work with. Could work out quite well. Unless we get more games like Aliens vs. Predator
