As a confessed history nut, particularly when the history in question is of the ancient kind, historical strategy games set in antiquity sort of float my trireme. So Alea Jacta Est seems right up my alley, set, as it is, between the 1st Century BC to 193 AD.
The focus of the title is the Roman civil wars in five separate scenarios. It will be interesting to see what ones the developers, AGEOD, pick — they are absolutely spoiled for choice. Within a single lifetime the Roman Republic went through two civil wars, became the Roman Empire, and then had a third one for good measure.
The title will apparently feature a historically accurate system of supply and command, realistic hand-to-hand combat and siege warfare, over a thousand historical leaders, and multiplayer support for up to three players. With the narrow focus on such a specific period — and on warfare rather than construction, economics, and domestic responsibilities — it certainly stands out.
This Latin romp is launching on September 22, 2012 for PC and will set you back $19.99. AGEOD is also in the process of trying to get it up on Steam via Greenlight.
