The reports are true! Activision has confirmed today that guitarist Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, the Nightwatchman) will indeed be a boss character in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Morello has even recorded what Tim Riley is calling a “mind-blowing original recording” for the game.

The game’s new boss battles (that also includes Slash of Guns N’ Roses fame) having gamers going head-to-head in an attempt to deplete the boss’ “Rock Meter” before the boss starts shredding on their “Death Drain” solo. Once defeated, players continue on to their encore, which will be a master recording of a well-known track from said boss’ respective band. In the case of Morello, players will jam on Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls on Parade.”

“Whenever I play Guitar Hero, my opponent always kicks my ass on my own riffs. It’s embarassing,” Morello said in today’s press release. “Now that I’m actually in the game, I hope the digital me will win once in awhile!”

No chance, Tom — we’re gonna own you and put videos of it up on YouTube. Try not to cry about it.
