ACID BLOOD? YES! More Aliens: Colonial Marines details

I can’t stop being excited for the release of Aliens: Colonial Marines, and as if the killer screenshots we featured last time weren’t terrific enough, we now have some details that, while only minor, amount to major happiness.

First of all, contrary to what the initial screens and reader complaints suggest, this squad shooter is not going to be all about dark, corridor-riddled environments. Obviously, we’ve seen that they will feature heavily, but outdoor sections have also been promised. That’s a great sign that we won’t have a game trying to purely mimic Aliens.

Secondly, the game won’t always feature typical “go from point A to point B” progression. In what is being described as “making a stand,” there will be sections where you must set up turrets and door barricades and hold off an incoming wave of Xenomorphs. Reminds me of the only good part of Midway’s PS2 Area 51 game … and I like it!

In less enthusing news, it’s also been revealed that quick time events will feature as well. While they can be fun, I really hate a game that ambushes you with such cheap trickery. Still, if they use it sparingly, it’s manageable and luckily, I’ve saved the best ’til last …

ACID BLOOD IS A GO GO GO! Although you can expect of course to be damaged if you get too close to an exploding alien’s corrosive giblets, the most interesting part of this news is that the blood will actually have an effect on the levels themselves. That’s fantastic.

I’m pumped. Are you pumped? ‘Cos I am so pumped, I’m using the word pumped without a trace of irony!
