A telltale trademark supports idea that next Fallout is set in Boston

[Update: Bethesda’s taken to Twitter to state that this trademark didn’t come from its offices, and is nothing more than a hoax. Someone likely filed it in Bethesda’s name given that the publisher is listed as the proprietor on the filing.]

There’s been a whirlwind of rumors within the past few years that the next Fallout game would be set in Boston. Last December, casting documents leaked that outed the location. Today, a new trademark’s popped up that suggests the series will indeed return to the northeast.

A NeoGAF user discovered a filing from Bethesda with the German Patent and Trade Mark Office for the trademark “Fallout: Shadow of Boston.” This could very well be the name of the next Fallout title. Curiously, the scope of the name covers typical videogame listings, as well “auditioning for TV game shows.”

There are several possibilities for what the trademark could be. It’s possibly the next Fallout game. It might be some sort of tangential project in a non-videogame format that Bethesda’s working on. There’s the chance it’s a name solely for Europe, and it’ll be branded differently elsewhere. And, most frustratingly, it could be something that never sees the light of day.

For now, it should have fans clam(chowd)oring for a return to the Wasteland.

Trade mark No.: 013401691 [German Patent and Trade Mark Office via NeoGAF]
