A/S/L?: THQ’s Cyber Sunday/Smackdown review/press event

THQ was kind enough to invite us out to their WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 review/press event yesterday, which took place in Washington D.C.’s Hotel Monaco. WWE diva/superstar Melina, ECW/WWE superstar Elijah Burke, and various members of the Smackdown dev team were on hand to answer questions and promote the game, which hits stores on November 13.

WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2008 will be coming to almost every platform imaginable — Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, Wii, Nintendo DS, Sony PlayStation Portable, and wireless platforms. Final builds of all but the wireless versions were on hand to play yesterday, and I’ll be putting up a fancy little round-up preview of all of the different versions a little later.

But to give you a little preview: The Xbox 360 version looked the best; the Wii version contains more waggle than any game that has come before it, but also may have been the most fun; and the Nintendo DS version of the game is one of the strangest wrestling gaming experiences I’ve ever had, which at the end of the day, may work in its favor.

After the presser, we went on over to the nearby Verizon Center, where I was able to catch half of yesterday’s big WWE pay-per-view event, Cyber Sunday. The crowd was loud, the fireworks louder, and the pyro was hot, so I need some time to recover before writing up my preview. So lift some weights, oil yourself up, and check back later for the full preview(s).
