A real thing: iPad cardboard arcade cabinet

Recommended Videos

At Tokyo Meeting 05, a DIY nerdfest held at Tokyo’s Institute of Technology last week, someone made the above pictured mini arcade cabinet for the iPad. It’s jank, but it adds a joystick and fire buttons to a cardboard cabinet. There are no details on how the buttons work, but I’m sure the boys at the Institute found a way. Maybe Bluetooth? Or they could have gone full mechanical, working a dock and keyboard under the cardboard to get it going.

This reminds of ThinkGeek’s April Fools product, a $150 non-cardboard mini arcade cab dock for the iPad.

You can see in this video shot at the event by Brian Lockwood that the cardboard cab really works.
