A patch for Just Cause 3’s performance problems is in the works

No definite release date yet

Just Cause 3 launched this week, and blimey has it been a bit of a mess. Patrick’s review of it was positive, saying it “provides some of the best open-world tools ever.” It seems like it’s a good game, but there have also been a lot of complaints about huge technical problems with it on every platform.

Reports have been coming out of memory leaks, 15-minute loading times, and framerate problems have been plaguing each platform, especially the Xbox One. The problem is that the game’s engine relies heavily on the framerate, and so the lower the framerate drops, the slower it runs as opposed to just being a choppy slideshow.

In a post published on Just Cause 3’s Steam Community page, Square Enix has acknowledged the problems with the game, and claims it is aiming to fix them. Unfortunately, there isn’t any ETA on when the fixes will be released, as it is having some trouble reproducing the problems reported:

…We know that some of you are encountering some technical issues – we’re looking into them all and we’re fully committed to providing you the best possible experience.

We know you’re going to want specific information on when a patch will land and what will be fixed – we would love to give you that information, and we will as soon as we have it. But right now, a little over one day since we launched, we have huge numbers of players in our enormous game world and we’re monitoring all the data coming in.

We need a little bit of time to recreate some of these issues and build fixes. Rest assured though – we are fully committed to making Just Cause 3 as awesome as possible. We already know loads of people are having a blast with the game but we’ll do all we can to make sure everyone is laughing and smiling as they play.

The post also suggests PC players look through the Steam discussions page to find any potential fixes to their problem until an official patch is pushed out.

After Arkham Knight’s awful launch earlier this year, promises of patches with no idea as to exactly when they’ll be coming worry me a bit. Hopefully we’ll know more about the fixes in the near future.
