A game, not a sport: Real Sports talks eSports again

No, I don’t think competitive gaming needs approval from something like Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. But that doesn’t mean common ground shouldn’t be reached. The show’s recent look into League of Legends was actually decent, I thought — Soledad O’Brien came in with an open mind, which is more than I can say of the correspondents in the clip above.

The question “Do you have any statistics on how many of those people also go to Star Trek conventions?” really says it all. And if it doesn’t, then that off-the-charts like-to-dislike ratio on YouTube says the rest. The real shame here is the missed opportunity for an actual, productive discussion about whether or not eSports can be considered sports. A little elaboration, please.
