Achievements in Minecraft may still happen

Many of us love the choose-your-own-adventure style of Minecraft, because few games tend to offer exploration on such a grand scale. Of course, there are also people who have this desire to be told where to go and what to do; Minecraft isn’t necessarily for them.

GameSetWatch has an interview with creator Markus Persson in which he suggests achievements could eventually come to fruition. “I’ve had the idea to make achievements kind of like the in-game questing,” Persson begins.

“So you’d be able to see the first achievement in a tree of achievements, and you have to unlock the top ones first before you can unlock the ones further down. So the first one might be to chop down a tree, or kill a chicken, and then these branch into more things you can do. Hopefully it would encourage people to try new areas.”

Seems like a good idea, the way he’s describing it. The part of my brain responsible for time management does not like the concept, though. Not a bit.
