Acquire’s underwear game is Akiba’s Trip, a vampire game

Quirky Japanese dev Acquire, responsible for the likes of Way of the Samurai and the decent portions of Tenchu, has just revealed its newest PlayStation Portable game: Akiba’s Trip. It had been teasing the game earlier with mysterious pictures of boxer shorts lying around Tokyo’s Akihabara district.

Its actual premise seems to have little to do with blue-and-white-striped men’s underwear. Players are cast in the role of a student caught up in the fight against vampires (!) stalking Japan’s nerd mecca. Said protagonist is joined by a mysterious girl, “Rui”, and will encounter organizations such as “NIRO”, a citizen’s anti-vampire patrol group.

The game is an action adventure and is being developed by the same team behind Way of the Samurai.  Screenshots nabbed from Famitsu give me some interesting Persona and Yakuza vibes. Also, one screenshot shows a person tied to a chair in his underwear saying “…!”, and a woman in a maid outfit (perhaps from one of Akiba’s many maid cafes?) beating up a man trying to pull down her skirt.

While I’m somewhat disappointed that it’s not the ninja game fans asked for in a recent poll, I’m still in on this. How about you?
