Hands-on: Wii Remote Plus is exactly what it sounds like

Recommended Videos

We received our review copy of Nintendo’s FlingSmash today, a Wii MotionPlus mandatory title. Packed inside every retail copy is the latest and greatest in Nintendo motion controllers, the Wii Remote Plus, which combines a Wii Remote with MotionPlus in one peripheral.

Eager to get my hands on it, I pulled the remote out of the FlingSmash package to find that… yup, it’s just like a Wii Remote, only with Wii Motion Plus built right into it. That means no more dongle, which is great news, considering it took me ten minutes of hunting to find one for the comparison picture in the gallery.

With the MotionPlus built in, the Wii Remote Plus feels lighter than the standard Wii Remote plus the dongle. It’s also more comfortable, as I always found the addition of the MotionPlus to look and feel like a nasty wart.

Provided Nintendo and third-parties ramp up their MotionPlus support, I’ll probably slowly replace all of my standard Wii Remotes with the Wii Remote Plus. The fewer things I have floating around my house, the better.

I’ll have a full review of FlingSmash within the next week.
