Miyamoto: We’ll make both 2D and 3D Mario titles for 3DS

Nintendo designer Shigeru Miyamoto recently told investors during the Q&A portion of an earnings briefing that the company will indeed be putting out 2D and 3D — not to be confused with stereoscopic 3D — Mario games for the upcoming 3DS.

“They both have their own appeal,” he says. The classic example given when the handheld was first announced was how jumping on a Goomba would be easier with an added sense of depth. It sounds as if that sentiment is still a major part of the design philosophy.

Miyamoto brought up the Bullet Bill enemies, saying “It’s difficult to tell when they will hit the player, so we were only able to use these lightly [in prior games]. However, we’ll be able to use this type of thing quite a bit on the 3DS.”
