Kirby’s Epic Yarn was originally a new IP

When Kirby’s Epic Yarn was announced, there were a few among us who cynically suggested that it looked like a new IP that Kirby had been shoehorned into. It would appear that cynicism has won the day, with Nintendo admitting this was the case. 

The game was originally pitched as Fluff’s Yarn, and starred what one can only assume is the co-op character in the final game, Prince Fluff. Nintendo told the creators at Good Feel that it wanted Kirby to be in the game during the Summer of 2009, a move that concerned producer Etsunobu Ebisu at first, since his team put a lot of effort into the Fluff character.

Nevertheless, Epic Yarn received a pink transfusion and now stars Kirby, with Fluff relegated to a support role. So there you go!
