With two versions of Sonic Colors, Sonic the Hedgehog 4 and Sonic Free Riders all slated to release before the year is out, Sega is concerned that it has too many Sonic games on store shelves and has de-listed a number of games that received tepid review scores.
“We could make a lot of money on back-catalogue Sonic titles, but let’s keep the number of Sonic games available under control,” says Sega EMEA SVP Jurgen Post. “Otherwise you can have cannibalisation. If there are ten Sonic games on the shelves, with people seeing Sonic Rush DS or Sonic Rush Adventure, this may not help our overall strategy.”
Haha, man. You know Sonic’s become a whore when Sega is having to essentially set up a blockade for its own games in case consumers get confused and buy the wrong thing. What a sad indictment on the state of the franchise.
Still, the new games (at least Colors and Sonic 4) look ace potatoes, so that’s something.
