Need for Speed World hits 1 million users, becomes free

To celebrate EA’s MMO-style Need for Speed World hitting one million registered users, the game is going free — well, sort of.

Previously, you could play up until reaching level 10 before you had to break out the ol’ wallet; now, everything is open, and you can still buy SpeedBoost items to “accelerate their career progression,” as EA expertly puts it. They really do have a way with words.

I’m admittedly kind of shocked they didn’t stick with this model from the get-go, but hey, there’s nothing wrong with experimentation. It’s a shame NFS World won’t cooperate with my PC. Have any of you gotten around to playing, by any chance?
