NHL Slapshot producer explains the game in this dev diary

This September will see the release of EA Sports’ first hockey game on the Wii, NHL Slapshot. We already know a good deal about it, but in this developer diary, the game’s senior producer, Joe Nickolls, goes through some new stuff. Check it out above!

The game’s career mode, “Peewees to Pros,” lets you play as cover athlete Wayne Gretzky from his childhood in a peewee hockey league to his NHL career as an Edmonton Oiler. But you can also create your own player; if you do, Gretzky will serve as your coach. The pack-in hockey stick peripheral — a receptacle for the Wii Remote and Nunchuk — can be used to play the game in other modes as well, such as a full season, the playoffs alone, or mini-games. Those include a one-on-one skater vs. goalie game and a four-player free-for-all scoring game.

NHL Slapshot is due out for the Wii on September 7, 2010. Hit up the game’s official website for more info.
