Castlevania: Harmony of Despair hits on August 4

Konami has announced that its Xbox LIVE Arcade title, Castlevania: Harmony of Despair hits Xbox LIVE Marketplace on August 4. The price to slay ghouls and skeletons with your buddies? 1200 MS Points.

Harmony of Despair is a curious take on the series, dumping players in massive explorable levels inspired by the Nintendo DS titles, Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia. The catch? The game can be played cooperatively with up to six players over Xbox LIVE. Harmony of Despair also features a Survival Mode, as well as full leaderboard rankings so you can show the world how good at surviving you are.

While the game is currently only scheduled to hit the Xbox 360, the game’s producer Koji Igarashi wouldn’t rule out a PlayStation 3 version that could someday hit the PlayStation Network. All that needs to happen is that the 360 version is successful. So you know, buy it now, and then buy it again later. Sure, why not?

Oh, and here are some new screenshots to whet your appetite.
