Happy birthday, Sonic!

Sonic the Hedgehog‘s 19th birthday is today. Who would have imagined such a thing? You’d think the poor guy would be shot to death rather than cruelly kept alive for so long, but he’s still kicking, with two games coming this year that actually look good. Who knew?

Sega is celebrating with a whole list of big deals. We told you about them yesterday, but here’s a quick reminder:

  • XBLA: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles 240 MP Points each
  • PSN: Sonic Rivals $10.99, Sonic Rivals 2 $13.99, discounts on DLC for Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and Sonic Unleashed
  • iTunes: Streets of Rage and Golden Axe $0.99 each, Super Monkey Ball $2.99, Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Edition $4.99, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic 2 for $3.99

Frankly, a few of these “deals” bring the prices down to how much the games should cost (I’m looking at you, Golden Axe!) but since it’s Sonic’s birthday, I won’t spoil the party by wearing my cynical game blogger hat.

Speaking of which, happy birthday to Sega’s little blue whore. May you spend this day free of the coke that has ruined your brain, and the booze that has comforted your pain over the past ten years. May all the brightly colored furry friends that have ruined your reputation die in some horrendous kidney-based accident, and may Sonic 4 be the big comeback special you deserve. Or something.
