Brand-new Mortal Kombat announced for 2011

The timing of this announcement may be suspicious, given the rather amazing “movie” trailer we saw earlier this week, but apparently it’s a mere coincidence. Warner Bros. has today announced an all-new Mortal Kombat game, simply titled Mortal Kombat, for release in 2011.

Ed Boon is in the driving seat, heading up a new team known as NetherWorld Studios. A new graphics engine will herald a “reinvention” of the franchise’s 2D fighting style. The game will have an obligatory online mode, including a co-op Arcade Mode in which tag teams can join forces and battle real-life opponents. A deep story and returning faces have been promised as well.

That’s about all we know so far. Exciting or not? TELL US!
