Sony has today announced that the PlayStation 3 has sold fifty million units worldwide, and yes, that’s sold. Sony isn’t pulling the sneaky “shipped” trick this time.

The system launched in 2006 and currently boasts over 75 million registered PlayStation Network accounts and 105,988 pieces of digital content on the PlayStation Store.

Quite the milestone for the Black Box o’ Blu-ray. Feel free to offer your congratulations/fanboy flame-baiting in the comments!
